B & G's #93 7/19/09

Seattle Mariners (48-43) Vs Cleveland Indians (36-56)
At Progressive Field in Cleveland, Ohio
Sunday July 19Th, 2009

Erik Bedard (5-2, 2.63) Vs Aaron Laffey (3-2, 4.24)
Final Score: Seattle 5, Cleveland 3
W- Shawn Kelley (2-1)
L- Rafael Betancourt (1-2)
S- David Aardsma (22)

Baseballs:

**Ichiro- Ichiro was the hero of the game, he went 3-4 with a walk and a double. But honestly, the play of the game was his amazing catch over the wall to rob Victor Martinez of either a Home Run or a Double. He leaped to grab the ball and jumped 9 feet. Just amazing and now Ichiro is hitting .363 on the season.

**Russell Branyan- Russel got the Mariners going early with a 2 run shot, giving him 23 Home Runs, and he now has 52 RBIs. Russell went 2-4 with a walk and he is hitting .278.

**Franklin Gutierrez- Franklin went 2-5 and he drove in 2 runs, giving him 42 RBIs and he stole a base. Franklin is now hitting .295 on the season.

**Rob Johnson- Rob went 1-3 with 2 walks, he is now hitting .209 on the season.

**Mariners Bullpen- Eric Bedard was not sharp, but as a collection, the Mariners bullpen helped Bedard out, throwing 4 1/3 scoreless innings. Miguel Batista (1 1/3 innings, walked 2 and struck out 2), Shawn Kelley (1 inning, striking out 2) earned his 2Nd win of the season, Mark Lowe (1 inning, striking out 1) earning his 14Th hold, and David Aardsma ( 1inning, walked 1 and struck out 1) notched his 22Nd save. Batista now has a 3.23 ERA, Kelley with a 5.17 ERA, Lowe has a 3.09 ERA, and Aardsma has a 1.83 ERA.

**Aaron Laffey- He started off bad, giving up 3 runs in the 1st inning and then settled down to throw 5 scoreless innings to earn a quality start. He threw 6 innings total, giving up 3 runs (3 earned), he walked 2 and struck out 3. Aaron gets the Mariners again this coming weekend and he has a 4.27 ERA.

**Grady Sizemore- Grady walked 3 times and he scored a run. Grady is hitting .237 after going 0-2.

**Ben Francisco- Big Ben went 2-4 and he hit his 7Th Home Run of the season, a 2 run shot, giving him 27 RBIs. Ben is now hitting .237 on the season.

**Jhonny Peralta & Luis Valbuena- They both went 1-3 with a walk each. Jhonny is hitting .256 with Vabuena hitting .219.

**Tony Sipp- Tony threw a scoreless 1/3 of an inning, striking out 1. Tony now has a 3.07 ERA.

**Joe Smith- Joe threw 2/3 of an inning, striking out 1. Joe now has a 4.22 ERA.

Goofballs:

**Indians Offense- No clutch hitting today, they outhit the Mariners, but couldn't punch in the hits that counted. In this series, the Indians hit .225 and scored only 10 runs.

**Rafael Betancourt- Raffy B lost the game, he gave up 1 run (1 earned) in 1 inning, he did walk 1 and struck out 0. Betancourt now has a 3.52 ERA.

**Kerry Wood- Kerry got the rare appearance in and he gave up 1 run (1 earned) in 1 inning. He now has a 5.23 ERA.

**Ryan Garko- Struck out 3 times today, a rare bad day for Ryan.

**Erik Bedard- Bedard wasn't sharp today, he only lasted 4 2/3 innings, giving up 3 runs (2 earned), he did walk 3 and struck out 6. Erik now has a 2.70 ERA.

**Jose Lopez- Jose committed his 12Th error of the season, costing an unearned run to score.

On Deck:

Oh goodness, this team finds a different way to lose games, and despite that, our idiot manager is still employed. I'll say it again, where is Matt Laporta? Our pitching has done a better job lately, but now it's our hitters finding ways to forgot they are Major leaguers and can't hit with runners in scoring position. This has been such a lost season, I am not sure if I am rooting for them to lose 100 games JUST to fire Wedge. Then again, there is no guarantee of that happening either. So, another day, another loss. Oh wait, they are off tomorrow. They do start a tough 9 game road trip, starting in Toronto on Tuesday evening. Game starts at 7:07 PM, airing on STO, with Indians On Deck starting at 6:30 PM. Actually, we might have a chance tomorrow, Cliff Lee (5-9, 3.31), so you never know. He will be opposed Brett Cecil (3-1, 5.40). WTAM 1100-AM will air the game if you can't see it on TV. I don't what else to say other than this has been a very long year and it's tougher to watch this team lose and do nothing. Go Tribe.

B & G's #92 7/18/09...Washburn Outdueled Tomo Ohka

B & G's #92 7/18/09

Seattle Mariners (47-43) Vs Cleveland Indians (36-55)
At Progressive Field in Cleveland, Ohio
Saturday July 18Th, 2009

Jarrod Washburn (6-6, 2.96) Vs Tomo Ohka (0-3, 6.40)
Final Score: Seattle 3, Cleveland 1
W- Jarrod Washburn (7-6)
L- Tomo Ohka (0-4)
S- David Aardsma (21)

Baseballs:

**Jarrod Washburn- He says he didn't have it tonight, but the results prove otherwise. He threw 6 2/3 innings, giving up 1 run (1 earned), he didn't walk anyone and struck out 3. Jarrod now has a 2.87 ERA and won his 7Th game of the season.

**Franklin Gutierrez- The former Indian did it again, hitting his 12Th Home Run of the season, this time a 2 run shot, giving him 40 RBIs, he got hit by a pitch and finished up 1-3. Before the Home Run, he made a fantastic catch, robbing Grady Sizemore of at least a double. Franklin is now hitting .294 on the season.

**Russell Branyan- Russell went 1-3 with a sacrifice fly, driving in his 50Th run of the season and he is now hitting .275.

**Ronny Cedeno- Ronny is now getting the chance to play everyday and tonight, he finished up 1-3 with a double, the only other extra base hit, other than the Home Run. Ronny is hitting .183.

**Sean White- Sean earned his 10Th hold of the season, he threw 1 1/3 innings, without giving up a run. Sean has a 2.55 ERA.

**David Aardsma- David notched his 21st save of the year, he has a 1.87 ERA.

**Tomo Ohka- 7 strong innings for the 5Th starter tonight, though he did lose again. He gave up 3 runs (3 earned), he walked 3 and struck out 2. Tomo now has a 5.95 ERA, but the Home Run is what cost him in the end.

**Travis Hafner, Victor Martinez, & Asdrubal Cabrera- They each went 2-4 at the plate, especially good to see with Victor since he was struggling big time prior to this game. Cabrera is now hitting .303, Victor is at .290, and Hafner is hitting .297.

**Jamey Carroll- Jamey went 2-3 and drove in a big 2 out single to drive in his 12Th run of the season. Jamey is hitting .281 on the season.

**Rafael Betancourt- Rafael threw a scoreless 8Th inning, he struck out 1 and now has a 3.34 ERA.

**Kerry Wood- Kerry had to come into the game, he hasn't worked in awhile, so he threw a scoreless 9Th inning, striking out the side. Kerry now has a 5.12 ERA.

Goofballs:

**Offense- All around tonight, just 4 combined runs on 13 hits. This certainly was a pitcher's duel, but it's more concerning to me for the Indians since Seattle won this game. The Indians have only scored 7 runs in the 3 games they have played in this series.

**Shin-Soo Choo- Choo has struggled in this series, tonight he went 0-4 and struck out 2 times. In this series, he has struck out an alarming 6 times. Choo is hitting .287.

On Deck:

I just wonder if keeping Eric Wedge as the manager for the rest of the season is the way to go. This team doesn't care anymore, and I would much rather see someone like Matt Laporta, who does care to earn his keep than someone like say Ben Francisco, who continuously puts bad at bats together. It was nice to see Tomo pitch well, but again, this team finds a different way to lose the game. They might be on their way to lose 100 games, I know one thing for sure, they won't go 20 games over .500 in their final 70 games to reach .500. That I can almost guarantee. Heck, right now, I will settle for 2 wins in a row. How sad is that? Tomorrow afternoon is the final game of this series. It starts at 1:05 PM, airing on WKYC-TV3 and STO, Indians On Deck airing at 12:30 PM on channel 3. Eric Bedard (5-2, 2.63), he will take on Aaron Laffey (3-2, 4.24). It should be a good match up, but the Indians offense must come alive just to salvage this 4 game series. WTAM 1100-AM will air the game if you can't watch it on TV. Let's go Tribe.

B & G's #91 7/17/09...King Felix Dominated Tribe Offense

B & G's #91 7/17/09

Seattle Mariners (46-43) Vs Cleveland Indians (36-54)
At Progressive Field in Cleveland, Ohio
Friday July 17Th, 2009

Felix Hernandez (9-3, 2.53) Vs David Huff (4-3, 6.71)
Final Score: Seattle 6, Cleveland 2
W- Felix Hernandez (10-3)
L- David Huff (4-4)

Baseballs:

**Felix Hernandez- "King" Felix was absolutely dominating tonight, going 8 innings, just giving up 2 runs (2 earned), he walked 1 and struck out 8. Felix now has a 2.51 and honestly, he could have finished the game.

**Jose Lopez- Jose went 3-5 with 2 doubles and he is now hitting .264 on the season.

**Ronny Cedeno- Ronny went 2-4 and drove in 2 runs, giving him 16 RBIs and Ronny is hitting .180 on the season.

**Ichiro Suzuki- Ichiro had a typical night, going 2-5 and driving in his 25Th run. Ichiro is hitting an amazing .361 on the season.

**Franklin Gutierrez- Franklin greeted his former team with a Home Run, his 11Th of the season, and he now has 38 RBIs. Franklin is hitting .293 after his 1-5 evening.

**Ryan Langerhas & Rob Johnson- Both went 1-3 with a walk. Ryan is hitting .244 and Rob is hitting .205 on the season.

**Jack Hannahan- Jack walked 2 times and scored 2 runs.

**David Aardsma- Threw a scoreless 9Th inning finishing up the game. David has a 1.91 ERA.

**Grady Sizemore- Grady had a good night at the plate, going 2-4 with a double and a triple. Grady drove in his 49Th run with his triple and he is now hitting .242.

**Ryan Garko- The only reason why I am giving him a baseball is because he only had 3 at bats, but his 1 hit was a double. Ryan is hitting .275 on the season.

**David Huff- David survived tonight, he lasted 5 innings, giving up 3 runs (3 earned), he walked 1 and struck out 3. David now has a 6.60 ERA.

**Joe Smith- Threw a scoreless 8Th inning and he now has a 4.38 ERA.

**Chris Perez- Threw a scoreless 9Th inning, striking out 1 and Chris lowered his ERA to 5.28.

Goofballs:

**Indians Offense- Again, they laid an egg tonight, scoring 2 runs on just 5 hits. They waked 1 time and struck out 9. Not a good chance to win any games.

**Jose Veras- Jose came in for 2/3 of an inning, he gave up 2 runs (1 earned), he walked 2 and struck out 1. Jose also committed an error by not catching the ball, it was in his glove, but he could not catch it. He has 1 error and a 5.85 ERA.

**Shin-Soo Choo- Choo struck out 3 times tonight, he did have a hit and he is hitting .291, but the strikeouts hurt too.

**Franklin Gutierrez- Committed his 4Th error of the season.

On Deck:

Well, I was at the game tonight, I had a good time, despite this team falling asleep at the wheel. I also might have been on TV, I know I made the jumbo tron, again, for the 2nd straight game. It was awesome. Last night, after the game I looked up at the probable starters the Indians website had and it listed Tomo Ohka, so I went with it. I checked right before I left for the game and saw David Huff was starting instead, don't know how that happened, but whatever. All I know is it's sad that this team, with all the talent they have, still can't win 2 games in a row. Then again, I still can't believe Eric Wedge still has a job, and Manny Acta, former manager of the Washington Nationals doesn't, but whatever. Yes, it has gotten to this point where I stopped caring what happened in the game, I just make sure I have fun while I am at the game. So, we have another game tomorrow evening, starting at 7:05 PM, airing on STO, with Indians On Deck at 6:30 PM. Jarrod Washburn (6-6, 2.96) will take on Tomo Ohka (0-3, 6.40), maybe...LOL The game will air on WTAM 1100-AM if you can't watch the game on TV. One more thing, my condolences go out to Walter Cronkite and his family. The broadcasting world lost another legend and I was sad to hear the news. Go Tribe and R.I.P. Walter.
